Melb refers to the city of Melbourne, the capital city of in the state of Victoria, Australia and here is where Melb Aquarium is located. Similar to the NYC aquarium, Los Angeles aquarium, Toronto aquarium and the Birmingham aquarium, Melbourne also owns the Melb Aquarium. It is a Southern and Antarctic Ocean aquarium which is located in the central Melbourne, Australia. This wonderful aquatic world is located on the banks of the Yarra River and under the King Street Bridge and the Flinders Street Viaduct. Opened in the year 2000, this is an award winning aquarium and is one of the premier tourist attractions in Victoria. Melb Aquarium History
The Melb Aquarium was built during the period between 1998 February and December 1999. This building was designed by the Peddle Thorp Architects in order to resemble a ship moored to the Yarra River and opened in the year 2000. The depth of this building was however designed not to be imposing the street level but it still extends 23 feet below the surface. In the centre, this building holds the world’s first, 2.2 Million Litre aquarium in a round shape and the spectators are bound to be amazed with the marine creatures swimming around them in this aquarium. At present, this aquarium is owned and operated by the MFS Living and Leisure Group.
Design
In a self guided tour through the Melb Aquarium, you ought to travel through four Different levels. At level one you will experience an encounter with the staff at the exhibit counter. The First Level comprises of river to reef including the huge Murray cod, Billabong, Rock Pools, Mangrove and the Upper Deck Café. Timing And Entry
Melb Aquarium is open for the visitors from 9.30 am in the morning up to 6.00 pm in the evening on each day of the year including all the public holidays. Last admission to the aquarium is one hour before the closing time that is at 5.00 pm. According to the aquarium officials, the visitors require at least a tour of about 2-2.5 hours in order to experience an amazing journey all through the marine aquarium. In order to enter the aquarium, you need to purchase a ticket which will cost $33.50 for every adult, $19.00 per child for children between the age group of 3-15 years. The families consisting of 2 adults and 2 children, can enter the aquarium by paying $89.50 and the single family of 1 adult and 2 children can enter at a cost of $63.00.
